My music education.
I trained in the UK, completing a BA (Hons) in Music with a principal study in Voice. My degree built a solid technical and musical foundation: breath management and support, registration and resonance, articulation, diction and the International Phonetic Alphabet, sight-reading, harmony and aural skills. I studied both classical and contemporary repertoire—art song, opera scenes, musical theatre and CCM—alongside modules in song interpretation, acting through song, ensemble singing and basic conducting. To support singers in rehearsal and lessons I developed keyboard skills for coaching, arranging and transposition, and I trained in studio musicianship and live microphone technique so I can prepare students for both stage and studio.
I later earned a Postgraduate Certificate in Music Education, specialising in one-to-one vocal teaching. That programme refined my evidence-based approach to lesson planning, assessment for learning, and adapting methods for different ages, voice types and goals. It also covered safeguarding and first aid relevant to teaching. My professional development is ongoing: masterclasses with UK vocal coaches across classical, musical theatre and contemporary styles; workshops informed by current voice science (SOVT work such as straw phonation), healthy belt/mix, jazz and gospel harmony, keyboard harmony for accompanists, and Alexander-Technique-informed posture and breath. I integrate technology where it helps—backing-track creation, digital practice logs, and high-quality online lessons.
My music experience as a singer.
I’ve performed at venues in Demo and across the UK—arts centres, theatres, festivals, weddings and corporate events—fronting function bands, jazz quartets, acoustic duos and original projects. As a session vocalist I record lead and backing vocals for independent artists and media projects (adverts, podcasts, library music). I’m comfortable reading charts, matching reference tracks, stacking harmonies/doubles, and delivering clean stems to brief and deadline—on site or remotely.
I also work regularly in musical theatre settings, collaborating closely with MDs, taking cues, and following click tracks when required. On the technical side, I have confident microphone technique, manage radio mics and RF checks, and work effectively with in-ear monitoring or wedges.
My work as a singing teacher in Demo.
I teach in Demo and online, working with complete beginners through to advanced singers of all ages. Lessons are mainly one-to-one, with small-group options for harmony and ensemble skills; I also teach as a visiting vocal tutor in schools. Every student gets a clear, tailored plan covering vocal technique, musicianship, diction/IPA, interpretation and style, and repertoire development. Where relevant we add microphone technique, stagecraft, and performance confidence.
We set realistic weekly goals, agree focused practice routines (including semi-occluded vocal tract exercises), and track progress with shared notes and recordings. Exam preparation is a regular part of my teaching, mapped to your style and aims. I use adaptive strategies for different learning needs and keep communication open with parents/guardians when teaching younger students.
Singing lessons structure.
In a typical lesson, we start with a brief check-in to review progress and set one clear aim for the session. We move straight into a focused vocal warm-up: breath management and support, semi-occluded exercises, gentle sirens through the passaggio, and vowel tuning for resonance and registration balance. A short, practical musicianship block follows—keys, form, harmony, rhythm or diction/IPA—chosen to support today’s goal. I then connect that technical work to song study so the step into repertoire feels natural and purposeful.
Most of the lesson is spent on your songs: isolating tricky phrases, mapping breaths, refining pitch, timing and tone, adjusting vowels and consonants, and building confident style and interpretation. We finish with a full run-through, concise, actionable feedback, and a targeted practice plan for the week so you know exactly what to do between lessons. Around exams, auditions or gigs, I shift more time to mock performances while keeping a brief technique and musicianship touchpoint.

MUSIC GENRES

EXTRAS
Play-along - Backing tracks - Recording - Song learning
Lessons focus on practical vocal skills you can use straight away. We build solid technique—breath management and support, efficient onsets, registration and resonance (chest/head/mix), vowel tuning, diction/IPA, agility and riffing, pitch accuracy, and healthy vibrato—plus stylistic tools for phrasing and dynamics. Musicianship is applied and musical: keys, harmony and progressions, form, counting/subdivisions, and ear training.
You’ll learn to read from lead sheets and notation, improvise (ad-libs, melodic variation/scat), shape your tone with articulation and resonance, use a microphone confidently, and practise efficiently with clear routines. Musically, we cover pop, rock, soul/R&B, indie, blues, jazz foundations, gospel, and musical theatre—with room to explore your favourites. We rehearse with a metronome and high-quality backing tracks so you can lock in time, try ideas safely, and build confidence for auditions and band settings. I provide tailored tracks (your key/tempo), slowed-down loops for tricky phrases, and optional guide melodies.
Singing lesson types.
CONTEMPORARY
Modern vocal lessons focus on sound, groove, and confident, healthy technique. We build time feel and stylistic lead work: breath management and efficient onsets, registration and resonance (chest/head/mix), vowel tuning, slides/portamento, controlled vibrato, riffs/runs, phrasing, and dynamic control. You’ll develop “vocal fluency” for improvisation—pentatonic/blues vocabulary, guide tones, call-and-response—plus ear training, harmony parts, and reading from lead sheets/lyric charts.
JAZZ & BLUES
Jazz and blues lessons develop authentic style, solid technique, and expressive phrasing. We start with posture, breath support, and registration/resonance, then build time feel—swing, shuffle, and 12/8—plus micro-timing (laying back or leaning ahead of the beat). You’ll expand your sound palette with scoops, slides, bends, fall-offs, tasteful rasp/growl produced safely, and controlled vibrato, alongside genre-appropriate diction.
